  1. In 'Signs', at the end when they're we see them looking at something but we see it from that thing's perspective so we don't actually see what it is. This builds ambiguity and mystery which I think is a key part of these types of films.

  2. The Fast and The Furious (Cohen, 2001) is another thriller that uses expensive props, and this film has an expensive location - closed roads with stunt drivers and a shipping yard. Also, it seems that a story that is hidden from the audience is already in full flow; a lorry jacking happens within the first two minutes, seemingly placing the audience right in the middle of the plot.

  3. Following on from Dom's point about the camera being placed in the perspective of the 'thing', this technique is not only effective but also cuts the need for expensive special effects/make-up/props etc.

In '13 Going On 30' (Winick, 2004), the title sequence is accompanied by a major-key soundtrack to set the scene for a rom-com. Immediately we are placed in the position of the teenage girl and her viewpoint. This may be a very difficult type of clip to achieve because it will require acting skill.
